What are the Differences Between All of the Ram Trucks?

2019 has been kind to the Ram truck brand. After a complete redesign, the Ram 1500 returned to the summit of the world's best trucks by offering its most complete package yet. On top of that, the Ram Heavy Duty models, the 2500 and the 3500 both achieved best-in-class numbers never before achieved by any other brand of truck. Suffice it to say; Ram has upped the ante up and down their truck lineup, and if you are a Gilroy or Watsonville driver that's been thinking about upgrading to one of these award-winning trucks, there's never been a better time.

No Matter Which One You Choose, a Ram Truck Will Impress

While most of the automotive press is talking about the Ram 1500 and its extraordinary capability, it's impossible to ignore the enhancements you get with both the 2500 and the 3500. That's not to say that the Ram 1500 is an inferior truck, far from it. It just all depends on the kind of job you need to accomplish.

No matter which Ram truck you go with, Morgan Hill and Hollister CA drivers will have their choice of engine options to maximize performance and capability. With the Ram 1500, most trim levels come standard with a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with eTorque technology that produces a driver-friendly 305 horsepower, 269 pound-feet of torque, and 7,730 pounds of max towing. From there, your engine upgrade options are a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 and a variant of that same 5.7-liter engine that includes eTorque. Both produce equal horsepower and torque ratings of 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet, but where the difference lies is in the eTorque's capability of producing a best-in-class 12,750 pounds of V8 towing.

As you might surmise, both Heavy Duty Ram truck options come standard with more powerful engines designed for bigger jobs. The Ram 2500's base engine is a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 that uses variable-cam timing to output a best-in-class horsepower rating of 410. It also ups the ante on power numbers across the board, clocking in at 429 pound-feet of torque, 6,600 pounds of payload, and 17,130 pounds of towing. The engine upgrade option is a 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel I6 that increases your torque rating to a whopping 850 pound-feet and towing to 21,560 pounds.

Finally, there's the Ram 3500, the truck designed for every possible big job conceivable. It comes standard with the same 6.4-liter Hemi V8 as the 2500 with identical power numbers, but where it stands out is the available 6.7-liter High Output Cummins Turbo Diesel I6 engine. This state-of-the-art engine is capable of record-breaking power numbers that include 1,000 pound-feet of torque, 7,680 pounds of payload, and 35,100 pounds of max towing.

Interior and Technology

The interior of the Ram truck lineup provides a refreshing contrast to the high-octane action that the pickup can provide its Salinas or San Jose owner. The quiet ambiance provided by the active noise cancellation evokes a much-needed serenity during the biggest jobs, and at the center of the interior design is the Uconnect infotainment system that includes a 12-inch touchscreen that is largest in class.

The Ram Heavy Duty lineup manages to improve its interior offerings by providing class-exclusive full leather seating. Premium materials layer every nook and cranny throughout the cabin in a way that feels like riding first class, and it's also worth noting that the amount of leather and real wood coverage tops that of its closest competitors.

Safety Features

One of the highlights of the Ram 1500 is the fact that it offers its drivers more than 100 safety and security features. These features include Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, Ready Alert Braking, Lane Departure Warning, and Hill-start Assist.

Both the Ram 2500 and the 3500 come with all of the standard safety features as the 1500, but they do improve the offerings, particularly in regards to towing. With record torque and towing numbers, the Ram Heavy Duty trucks offer a second rear-view camera, specifically designed to give the driver a complete view of their cargo for keeping an eye on their payload.

The Ram 3500 takes its safety features one step further by adding more sensors that provide additional coverage over the dual rear wheels. This way, drivers can reverse with confidence when your view is obscured.

The Ram truck lineup is the most potent you will find anywhere, and we invite all of our customers to stop in and test drive one of them at South County Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram today.
